My name is Dawn Della Bella and I am a watercolor artist based in Louisville, Kentucky. For as long as I can remember, I have felt attracted to the unique beauty of watercolor art. My background lies in the areas of Art, Ministry and Ecology. I hold a Fine Arts degree from San Diego State University, and a Masters Degree in Ministry and Ecology from Loyola University, New Orleans. As both a naturalist and a person of faith, God's beautiful gifts of nature inspire much of my work.
I look at each piece that I create as an adventure - an experience of exploring what is possible and elevating what is beautiful. My particular style showcases the versatility of the watercolor medium. My works explore the interplay between contrasts --light and shadow, bold pigments and soft palettes, precise realism and loose fluidity. Unlike many watercolors which tend to be light and pale, my works are bold and vibrant expressions of form and color. I achieve this effect through a process of layering multiple washes of pigment, drying each layer before the next is applied. (Known as "glazing").
My works have been featured at solo and group exhibitions in several regional galleries, and have won awards in both the local and state levels. I am a juried member of the Louisville Artisans Guild and a member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society.
